Good morning.  Dobro jutro.  It is my privilege to be here today as we celebrate not only a collection of historic photographs but also the deep history and partnership they represent. Standing alongside Ambassador Galbraith, whose role in the early days of our diplomatic relations was pivotal, is indeed an honor. Â
Mr. Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, your presence today underscores the enduring commitment between Croatia and the United States, a partnership rooted in trust, respect, and shared values.
Just three decades ago, Croatia stood at a crossroads, emerging from conflict with immense challenges: securing independence, building a democratic path, and striving for international recognition. Â
Those early days demanded resilience and determination—qualities exemplified by policymakers, public servants, civil society, and members of the press who documented Croatia’s journey to independence and many of those leaders are with us today.  Your collective efforts shaped the prosperous, forward-looking nation we see today: a beacon of resilience and progress, and a valued member of the Euro-Atlantic community.
Croatia’s transformation over the past three decades is nothing short of extraordinary. Â
Today, as a proud member of NATO and the European Union, Croatia also holds its place as part of the Schengen Area and Eurozone, further integrating into the heart of Europe.  With your sights set on membership in the OECD, Croatia continues to exemplify what can be achieved through courage, unity, and vision.  The United States is honored to have stood by your side during those early years, and we remain steadfast in our commitment to your continued success—as allies, friends, and partners.
As the 10th United States Ambassador to Croatia, it has been the honor of my career to build upon the legacy of those who came before me.  Over the past year, I have had the privilege of working alongside dedicated individuals to strengthen the U.S.-Croatia relationship in meaningful ways.  Together, we have focused on deepening economic ties, fostering innovation, advancing energy security, supporting defense modernization, and empowering women and young leaders through education and entrepreneurship.Â
Each of these efforts reflects the shared values that bind our nations: democracy, human rights, and the pursuit of prosperity for all.  My time here has been deeply rewarding, filled with opportunities to forge meaningful connections, advance shared goals, and witness the remarkable spirit of the Croatian people.
The photographs being donated to the State Archive today are much more than images—they are windows into the story of our partnership. Â
You will see Ambassador Galbraith in many of these photos, symbolizing the United States’ steadfast commitment to Croatia’s sovereignty and success.  These moments, captured in rebuilding communities, strengthening institutions, and forging bonds, highlight the shared effort that laid the groundwork for the Croatia we celebrate today.
But these photos are not only a testament to history—they are also a bridge to the future. They remind us that diplomacy is ultimately about relationships and trust—between nations and between people. Â
Just as we stood together then, we continue to stand together today, ready to tackle the challenges of tomorrow.
As we reflect on the stories these photographs tell, let us also embrace the stories we are writing now: stories of collaboration in defense, diplomacy, trade, education, and culture. Together, we are shaping a future that mirrors our shared values and aspirations.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, this collection represents countless narratives—of determination, cooperation, and hope. Â
Let these images inspire us to continue strengthening the U.S.-Croatia partnership.
Thank you for being part of this journey.  And thank you to the State Archive for preserving these invaluable snapshots of history. Together, we honor the past, celebrate the present, and look forward to a future of even greater promise.
Thank you very much.
