Through historical spotlights and interviews with European experts, we trace the legacy of 20th century totalitarian regimes on the 

psyches and politics of European countries that experienced state terrorism. While the end of World War II brought peace and 

freedom to Western Europe, for much of Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe, it meant the transition from Nazism to communism. 

The fall of the Berlin Wall led to independence for many of these countries, but the long-term effects of repression and bloodshed are 

evident in the political and cultural problems they face today.
